Ammoudi is a lovely bay with a little harbor 200 steps below Oia. With the crystal clear seas lapping at the table's edge, the bay is surrounded with fantastic seafood restaurants. All day long, the port is bustling with boat trips arriving and departing. Tourists use catamarans to visit the volcano, swim in the hot springs, tour the caldera cliffs and beaches, and go on popular sunset cruises. A dirt path hooks around the corner 5 minutes past the last restaurant, leading to a beautiful swimming place with a little island you can swim out to and a popular ledge to jump over.
There are two options for getting to the bay. If you're up for it, a steep but manageable staircase runs down to the bay from right below the castle in Oia. Each step is large, and the surfaces are occasionally uneven. This walk is probably not for you whether you're going out to a romantic dinner in nice shoes or spending the day in flip flops. It will be beneficial to wear adequate shoes for the Fira to Oia trekking trail. The other option is to return in a taxi, which can be booked at your hotel or by your restaurant. A cab fare between Oia and Amoudi is fixed at 10€. Another alternative is to walk in one way while driving in the opposite direction. After a meal, waiters at Ammoudi Bay restaurants are eager to phone taxis for their customers.
Water in Ammoudi is dazzling blue, but keep in mind that it deepen sharply, which for some is exciting but for others deterrent. The background is imposing, however, with the steep volcanic rocks "covering" the port. www.olvossantorini.com Ammoudi area is the best choice for an evening stroll and dinner specially if you stay in insuperable Oia! Ask you hotel’s front office manager for further details.
