Mykonos' Legendary Visitors

Mykonos is Greece's most famous cosmopolitan island, a true paradise in the heart of the Cyclades. It was first mentioned by Herodotus, who names Carians as the original inhabitants of the island. According to historical sources and archaeological finds, the ancient city of the island was established in the 11th century B.C. by the Ionians and has been inhabited ever since.


Mykonos is proud about its amazing nightlife and party scene, one that is a worthy match to Ibiza. Travellers from all around the world visit the island every summer for the popular clubs and vibrant bars of Hora. Mykonos is a powerful entertainment magnet for the international jet-set and has been selected as a top summer holiday destination time and again for pretty good reasons. In the 1950s numerous were the legendary names that visited, loved and were associated with the island. Later on it quickly became the favoured holiday destination for the Hollywood super-rich, artists and movie stars such as Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Shakira, Lady Gaga, Steven Spielberg, Monica Bellucci, Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Clive Owen, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Giorgio Armani, Russell Crowe. And the list still grows...


But there’s more in Mykonos than just luxury. The island is a fascinating world where glamour meets simplicity and everyone is welcomed. In Mykonos, celebrities, college students and families mingle together to celebrate the Greek summer. The locals, being particularly open-minded, welcomed the gay community and the island soon became known as the most gay-friendly destination in Greece. Every year it welcomes many LGBTQ tourists and hosts numerous venues and bars that are exclusive to the specific community.
